Your Child (non spectacles wearer) Complains Cannot See Whiteboard?

Jia Yee (F/17) came for eye examination, complaining of blurry far vision at whiteboard after MCO with no complaint of headache or blurry near vision.

Upon examination, her power is:
R: -0.50/-0.50×90 (6/6)
L: -0.50/-0.75×90 (6/6)

Jia Yee has started school for a month now. She is still seeing far at whiteboard slightly blurry. Before MCO, she did not see blurry on whiteboard. Shortsighted power/myopia seems to increase significantly for a lot of people these days. This sudden power increase is due to excessive near work during MCO. As we stay indoor & look at computer/hp every day for the past few months, seeing upclose continuously without regular break put our eyes under stress, and this stimulates the eyeball to grow longer. Elongation of eyeball means increase of shortsighted power.

If you have symptoms of:
– blurry far vision after near work
– having headache
– seeing double vision
– eye turns inwards
– tired eyes

If you have all these symptoms, you may have pseudomyopia, an increase in myopia due to overstimulation from near work causing eye muscles (or ciliary muscles) to be spasm or “otot mata kejang”. This requires you to do cycloplegic refraction to relax your eye focusing system to get your true eye power.

Jia Yee will wear her glasses during classes at school. Other time, she may have the allowance to take off once a while. She has opted for a Korean style frame with a special eye shape at top part of the frame to use with a pair of clear lenses with a smooth layer of coating. Smooth coating eases lens cleaning, as the coating is smooth & ‘slippery’, so dust & fingerprints won’t stick on it easily, it means easy cleaning of the lenses.

Thank you Jia Yee & mummy for your trust & support!?
