What are these yellowish raised bumps?

Mr Yap (M/60) came for an eye examination and complained of decreased vision for far & near vision since few years ago with tearing especially right eye. He has diabetes and reported leakage of blood vessel in his right eye in which he has done laser.

New power:
R: -0.75/-1.75×25 (6/21)
L: -1.00/-1.00×180 (6/21)
Add: +3.00 (N10@40cm)

Vision at far & near are not satisfactory prompted us to check further. Mr Yap does have cataract in both eyes, but his cataract does not seem to cause so much deterioration to his vision. We checked on Asmler Grid & he reported seeing few crooked lines on the grid. And his colour vision is affected too. Seeing crooked lines on Amsler Grid and defect on colour vision may indicate that his macula(back part of eye) is affected. Remember that we mentioned previously that macula is in charge of our centre vision. In event if macula is swollen, light goes into our eye falling onto our swollen macula, so we have our centre vision seeing straight lines has now become crooked line or distorted, this is in need of further evaluation from eye doctor/ophthalmologist. Swollen macula may be associated with diabetes, Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and we have provided a referral letter.

Mr Yap also has pinguecula(yellowish raised bump/growth) – it is changes on conjunctiva(whitish part of our eye) due to exposure to ultraviolet(UV) from the sun. Pinguecula is not harmful, we simply wear sunglasses to protect against further UV exposure. If you feel dry eye, you may use non-preservative artificial tears to moist the eye.

Mr Yap has seen a consultant ophthalmologist and an eye injection was given on each of his eye to bring down the swelling. And he is scheduled to go back for follow up soon.

Thank you Mr Yap & Yeng for your trust & support!????
