Mr Ong messaged us to ask about custom two power of reading glasses. He asked us if it is bifocal. We thought we would like to share it here as you might be having the same queries as Mr Ong while reading our previous post of the link below:

Reading glass of custom two power is not bifocal lens, it looks just like a normal lens. It does not have a visible line/pocket/small square at the bottom of lens like in bifocal lens. Bifocal is having two power, the portion in the pocket is for you to look at near while the top bigger portion is for you to look at far. Bifocal enables you to see far & to see near, unlike multifocal that enables you to see clear continuously from far to near, without compromising your intermediate vision like in bifocal.
Reading glass usually comes in one power with a certain range of clear vision within your reading material and your eyes. Sometimes, you may find yourself adjusting the distance you hold your material so that your material falls within the range of clear vision of your reading power. Some people may have a long range of clear vision in which you still see clear & comfortable at different distances, for e.g.. seeing desktop and seeing paperwork. If you are doing fine with the normal one power reading glass, then it is great. Otherwise, if you feel your existing reading glass does not give you satisfactory vision doing your near work, you may explore custom two power reading glass or indoor lens/office lens/occupational lens that can be customised according to your visual needs at work.
If you just want to have clear & comfortable vision looking at:
1) Desktop -> paperwork
Custom two power reading glass is great as it gives you the widest field of view (horizontally) especially if you have a few monitors/desktop/laptop side to side that you want to see at the same time… but when your colleague is standing at your door, you will need to remove your reading glass to see your colleague or to change to your glasses seeing far
2) Paperwork -> desktop -> door of your office room(about 4metres)
You may opt for indoor lens/office lens in which you can see clear & comfortable navigating within your office room.. but the field of view may not be as wide as custom two power reading glass when you are looking at your computer
