Michelle came for eye examination, vision with existing single vision glasses of 1year is fine seeing far and seeing near is blurry.
Examination showed:
R: -9.25/-1.00×130 (6/6)
L: -10.00/-0.25×90 (6/6)
Add: +2.00 (N5@40cm)
Michelle has significant shortsighted power of 925 & 1000 with astigmatism of 100 & 025 in right and left eye respectively. Very high shortsighted power means eyeball is stretched much longer and this may cause degenerative changes to the back of our eye. As such, we are more susceptible to having eye conditions related to pathological myopia ie. retinal detachment.. and the symptoms of retinal detachment are:
- flashing lights
- a recent onset, increase or change in your floaters
- curtain coming down, up or across your vision, covering part of your vision
For high myopia, we must be aware of these symptoms… as retinal detachment is an eye emergency in which you must immediately have your eyes checked and we will advise you accordingly. Therefore, annual eye examination is important to get to know the status of your vision. Equally important is dilated eye examination whereby your eyes are dilated (pupil opened bigger by eye drop) so that ophthalmologist can have a through examination to look at the health of the back of your eyes.
