Big Bumps Underneath Eyelid?

  • Post author:

Lynette (F/13) came for eye examination complaining slightly blurry far vision with existing glasses of 1year.

Vision with own glasses:

R: -8.00/-2.00×175 (6/6-)

L: -7.00/-2.50×180 (6/7.5-)

Examination showed:

R: -8.00/-2.25×175 (6/6)

L: -7.25/-3.00×180 (6/6)

What is more significant is her papillae underneath her eyelids. And she is not contact lens wearer. Papillae is small bump found in the inner of her eyelids. The size of her papillae is enormously big, this suggests possibility of eye allergy. When prompted whether or not she does rub her eyes often, she admitted and her mother also reported that she always rubs her eyes. Which correlate with the degree of astigmatism in her eyes, especially her left eye.

We also ask if she has sinus as someone who has sinus may develop eye allergy too. As nose is connected with eyes, he/she may feel itchy in the eyes hence the eye rubbing, that may lead to high astigmatism power. If that is the case, you should bring your child to see an eye doctor/ophthalmologist to get allergy eye drop that is safe to be used every day to control the eye itch. No eye itch, no eye rubbing, so astigmatism power is maintained. And a visit to the eye doctor is good too so as to examine the health of your child’s eye. As eye with very high shortsighted power/myopia is more susceptible to having pathological eye diseases related to high myopia such as “myopic macular degeneration”, “retinal detachment”, “open-angle glaucoma”*. Alternatively, you may visit us and let us have a look.. and we will have a referral letter for you accordingly.

There is slight power increment in both eyes. With both eyes open, she still can see the smallest line on testing chart, just less distinctly sharp as the new power. So, we will monitor in another 3months. Also, we have reinforced proper visual hygiene to ensure that Lynette plays an important role in taking care of her vision and the health of her eyes. With such high power, we want to do all we can to bring her power under the best control.

Her older sister Evelyn and younger brother Louis have maintained their power pretty good. Both of them do have papillae too but the size is not as big as Lynette’s ones.

Louis’s papillae

Thank you Lynette, Evelyn & Louis and mummy for your trust & support!?
