Vision Loss Due To Diabetes?

  • Post author:

Kak Saraswathy (F/55) came to make a pair of glasses, complaining blurry far & near vision. She has bleeding in her right eye due to diabetes and she has undergone laser a few times to stop the eye bleeding recently.

Vision without glasses:
R: 6/60- blurry
L: 6/60 blurry

R: +0.25/-1.00×90 (6/60) better but still blurry
L: -1.00/-0.50×90 (6/45+)
Add: +8.00 (N14@12cm)
(Retinoscopy shows some central black patch/opacity in right eye)

Kak Saraswathy can see 2 – 3 bigger lines on testing chart using her left eye and she can only see the biggest line on near testing chart with very high reading power in holding material very close to eyes. Her vision is categorised under severe distance and near vision impairment/vision loss that is due to diabetes affecting the eye, we term as diabetic retinopathy.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), a person is considered blind when his/her vision is worse than 3/60 in the better eye with best possible correction. It means a person who is considered blind cannot even see the biggest letter 3/60 on testing chart in a distance of 3m. Our normal testing distance is 6m. With kak Saraswathy, her right eye almost falls under this category. We must really take a good diet control on sugar to prevent worsening and to preserve the remaining vision.. otherwise we will go blind from diabetic retinopathy.

Kak Saraswathy is a housewife, she stays home & cooks for her family. She gets a pair of reading glasses so that she can see her hp. She has it in a plastic frame in clear multicoated lenses.

Thank you kak Saraswathy for your trust & support!? Akak must take a good diet control over your blood sugar ya❤️
