Some of our customer friends came to share about their vision and the changes in their vision post MCO. We feel loved and appreciated when you come back to service your glasses and “blow water”/chit chat with us. If you run errants around here, please WA/call us.. to let us know that you are coming, then we will have the time slot reserved, sorted out and wait for you.
We have a few customer friends who have brought their children over for an eye examination after complaining of headache upon engaging on online learning recently.
Melissa (F/20) an undergraduate, complains of constant headache ever since she started daily online learning and she sees blurry at near. Initially, her headache was still bearable.. but it got worse day after day which prompted her mother to bring her for an eye examination.
Yes, when you have blurry vision, burning eyes, red eyes, headache, whenever you are in doubt about your eyes or vision, please reach out to us.
Melissa has:
1) Significant astigmatism
Upon examination, her right eye has perfect vision and left eye with significant astigmatism in which optometrist asked if she always rubs her eyes or she feels her eyes are itchy, especially her left eye.. and she agreed that she always rubs her left eye. Eye rubbing can cause astigmatism or rabun silau or “san guang”. Our eyes are round in nature, when light goes in, we see light nicely. But if we keep rubbing our eyes, the surface may become uneven, so when light goes into our eyes, you will see a lot of scattering light, hence what we call “silau” or “san guang” or astigmatism/rabun silau. Besides, her own spectacles have incorrect power, so it is important to get an annual eye examination so that your eyes are most relaxed wearing the optimum power.
2) Weak eye stamina
Also, she has weaker eye stamina. For a 20yo, she should be able to sustain clear near print when she brings her reading material up until 15cm away from his face (if you use a normal ruler to measure) but when reading material is just 28cm away from her face, she reported blurry already. About the same for both eyes. We measured three times and the measurements got poorer each time indicating that her eye muscles are fatigued/tired showing poorer measurement each time.. when we push her limit at seeing near repeatedly.
Weaker eye stamina will affect her near vision. Eye stamina is like our body stamina when we run. We need a good body stamina in order for us to keep running. Same thing goes to the eyes. Eyes need to have enough stamina to help sustain clear near vision. Otherwise, if we keep looking at our phone/computer (as near work requires eye stamina to help us auto focus at near print), when eye stamina runs out, the print will start to become blurry because there isn’t enough stamina to sustain seeing clear print.
Normally, for poor eye stamina, and if you do a lot of near work, at first when you see computer/gadgets, it’s clear, but after a while, you will start to see blurry. If you continue to force your eyes to see, you will have headache. Similarly, if you have poor eye stamina, but you do not use your computer/phone that much, then you may not have blurry near vision or headache. The concept of supply meeting demand.
For weaker eye stamina, we have relax lenses to help auto focus to see near clearly. Let the lenses do all the auto focus work for you, rather than you keep pushing your already weak eye muscles to do the auto focusing job for you. Then your eyes are relaxed, and you wont get headache. Hoorayyyy
3) Significant power of far vision must be corrected
Nevertheless, significant power of far vision must be given first. Then only your eyes are relaxed. When you have power at far that is not corrected, your eyes need to work hard to help see clear at far… then when you see near, eyes need to work again helping to auto focus seeing near. You are making your eyes work extra hard to help to see clear at far and to see clear at near. When your eyes are continuously under stress, constantly working extra hard for you, your power will increase fast.
