Mr Chang (M/46) came in with broken glasses. He wore a pair of single vision glasses for far vision & removed glasses to see near with no other complaint.
Upon examination, he has short-sighted of -150 in both eyes and minimal astigmatism. He has reading power of +175, so on his previous glasses, when he removes his glasses, he can see near pretty well. The short-sighted power at far vision, when glasses are removed, it is as if giving your eyes 150 of reading power, almost tally with his required reading power, that is why he can still see near well by removing his glasses.
In terms of removing glasses to see near, if your short-sighted power is higher, you would need to hold your reading material nearer for you to see. And this can be strenuous/stressful to your eyes. Provide your eye with the power it requires, then it is most relaxed, and that equals to stable power, happy eyes, happy owner!
Mr Chang has opted for a pair of multifocal lenses that enables him from seeing far to seeing near clearly. Now he enjoys the convenience without the need to remove glasses to see near.
If you find removing glasses to see near a hassle, then a pair of multifocal lenses is a great option for you. Especially if you need to be on a fast pace in your everyday life, completing your tasks within tight deadline, you wouldn’t want a slightest thing to slow you down.. yes, multifocal will solve your this pain point, giving you the vision freedom you need.
