Got Power In One Eye Only Need Glasses?

LShen (M/13) Priscilla’s son, came for eye examination, with complaint of slight blurry far vision since quite some time ago. He was told to have power in one eye only during previous eye check.

Vision without glasses
R: 6/45
L: 6/6

Examination shows:
R: -1.00/-0.25×10 (6/6)
L: PL (6/6) L>R (L: dominant left eye)

Other assessments show:

Examination of Eye Alignment (Cover Test)
NMD @ Distance
small EP, fast recovery @ Near
(normal value: orthophoria/NMD-No Movement Detected atau small XP fast recovery)

Examination of Eye Alignment/Posture (Howell Card) by 6^ Base Down on Right eye
Distance: 1 EP (yellow part)
Near: 1 EP (yellow part)
+1.00 Near: 2 – 4 XP (blue part)
(normal value: 0-1 EP or 0-3 XP @Distance and 0-6 XP @Near)
EP = Esophoria is misalignment of the eye, eye is deviated inwards
XP = Exophoria is misalignment of the eye, eye is deviated outwards

Examination of 3D Vision (Random Dot 3S)
12.5″
(normal value: 12.5″)

LShen has power in 1 eye only.. he has shortsightedness/myopia of 100 with 025 of astigmatism in right eye. It is always best to wear correction so that our eyes work under optimal environment(by wearing optimum power). Then the eye systems will do their parts effectively.. in turn giving us the sparkling smiling eyes.

Therefore, as simple as wearing the power prescribed according to your visual needs is all you need to do.

  • Far vision – if you have power/refractive error(myopia/hyperopia/astigmatism).. you should wear your glasses all the time.. for LShen, probably we can allow him to be off from glasses during leisure outdoors
  • Near vision – if you use digital devices/computer all day long, do give the little support/boost power on near vision, it really does make a difference.. although our eyes cannot tell.. but when we check, eye findings will tell us the things that they want you to know.. we your eyes’ interpreter
