Contact Lens Got High Oxygen Lens?

Yee Wen (F/22) came to purchase contact lenses. When asked if vision with current contact lens is okay, she said vision is okay but slightly blurry. When prompted the last time she had her eye examination, she said about 2years ago, in which optometrist suggested to have an eye examination since vision is blurry and last eye examination was 2years ago.

Upon examination, new power is:
R: -3.00/-0.75×20 (6/6)
L: -2.00/-1.75×170 (6/6)

She has shortsighted power of -300 & -200 and astigmatism of -075 & -175 respectively for right & left eye. Her shortsighted power has increased 050 for both eyes from her previous power hence seeing slightly blurry at far. Averagely, her power increment is 025/year which is still fine, considering she is undergraduate & still having certain amount of near work/assignment now, in which proper visual hygiene SARANGHAE should be reinforced.

Yee Wen is full-time contact lens wearer. She wears contact lenses every day but she will take off contact lens once she is back home. This is a very good practice, allowing your eyes to rest when you remove your contact lenses. Her eye health is optimum, no redness & no sign of lack of oxygen on whitish part of our eyes. On top of that, we also recommend taking a day off from contact lens at least one day/week.

For full-time contact lens wearer, sometimes, we may notice the whitish part of their eyes is reddish, this may indicate lack of oxygen. Our eyes get oxygen from our surroundings, if we wear contact lens longer than the intended hours, your eyes will then get oxygen from surrounding blood vessel hence the redness seen on the whitish part of our eyes.

For soft lenses, there are basically two types of materials.
Hydrogel VS Silicone Hydrogel
You can wear hydrogel lens for office hours about 9hours/day while you can wear silicone hydrogel (high oxygen lens) up to 14hours/day.

For astigmatism higher than -075, you need a toric contact lens to correct your astigmatism to give you sharp vision like you see with your glasses. And we will check for lens fitting to see whether it is centred properly/sitting nicely on your eye as toric lens has Axis, which is the orientation/direction of your astigmatism. Your astigmatism has axis from 5degree to 180degree. Yee Wen’s right eye has astigmatism of -050 with Axis 20 while her left eye has astigmatism of -175 with Axis 170.

Yee Wen has been wearing high oxygen lenses Alcon Air Optix on her right eye & Air Optix Toric on her left eye with no complaint. If no complaint with current contact lens, we will prescribe the same lens. Unless if she has complaint, we will rectify accordingly.

Thank you Ashley from Visure Optometry on the arrangement of the contact lenses????

Thank you Yee Wen for your trust & support!????
