After Cataract Surgery?

Mr Chandra (M/77) did his cataract surgery last month. He came to make a pair of reading glasses. Uncle has been feeling good about his eyes, seeing far is okay, but he cannot see near.

Examination showed that:
R: +0.75/-0.75×90 (6/9)
L: +0.75/-0.75×80 (6/9-)
Addition: +2.50 (N6@40cm)

After cataract surgery, for far vision, Uncle Chandra has some longsighted power & some astigmatism. And he has reading power +250. Without glasses, uncle still sees far fine. He needs a pair of reading glasses to see his phone & read newspaper comfortably.

If you would like to be completely glasses free after cataract surgery, you may opt for multifocal lens implantation which gives you vision from seeing far to seeing near as well as with toric correction which will correct your astigmatism. All entirely depend on your needs & preferences.

Sometimes, we may hear people saying that cataract will come back even after we have done cataract surgery. Actually, cataract wouldn’t come back, when you find your vision becomes blurry back again, it may be due to some dust that has stuck on your implanted lens, you may visit us to confirm this and we will advise you to visit the ophthalmologist to polish off the dust, then vision will be good again.

Everyone will get cataract, it is very common hearing people go for cataract surgery now. Cataract is the natural lens inside our eyes that gets yellowish/cloudy due to exposure to UV that we get from the sun. Our natural lens has helped to filter off UV from the sun for all our life, hence it turns yellowish when we get older.

Uncle Chandra has seen some crooked lines on Amsler Grid on his left eye, like what we have talked about yesterday. He is scheduled to go back to his ophthalmologist for follow-up next month. Meanwhile, uncle will do Amsler Grid at home.

Thank you Uncle Chandra & Juliana for your trust & support!????
