Mr Koo (M/ 61) came for eye examination, with complaint of blurry far & near vision with glaring since many years ago and dry, gritty eyes too. He has not worn any glasses before. He had a previous eye surgery to remove a metal foreign body in his right eye some 30years ago.

Mr Koo mainly has astigmatism with longsighted power 025 in both eyes. He has very mild cataract and his vision is still good. There is a white circular ring around his eyes, which may be associated with high cholesterol. Upon instilling fluorescein (a yellow eye dye onto the eye to check for dry eyes), there are dry spots detected in his left eye.. indicated by yellowish dots at the centre part of eye. He can get gel artificial tears from pharmacy & use the eye drop before sleep. We will see him in two weeks to assess his dry eye.
Mr Koo wants to use his glasses to see far for driving and to be able to see near too. For driving, he needs to wear astigmatism correction especially for night driving that has caused his complaint of glaring. We prescribe a single, convenient pair of multifocal glasses that enables him to see far to near clearly in Drive coating too.
