Chloe (F/5) came to have the first eye examination.

Vision without glasses:
R: 6/6-
L: 6/6-

Examination shows:
R: +0.50/-0.50×180 (6/6) N5@30cm
L: +0.25/-0.25×180 (6/6) N5@30cm

Other assessments show:

Examination of 3D Vision (Titmus Fly)
25″
(normal value: 20″).

Examination of Eye Alignment (Hirschberg)
symmetry
(normal value: symmetry / slightly nasal)

Examination of Eye Alignment/Vergence (Cover Test)
NMD @ Distance & Near
(normal value: orthophoria/NMD-No Movement Detected or small XP small recovery)
EP = Esophoria is misalignment of the eye, eye is deviated inwards
XP = Exophoria is misalignment of the eye, eye is deviated outwards

Chloe has slight longsighted/hyperopic power with mild astigmatism in both eyes. We recommend to prescribe the power, especially for seeing near like Ipad/hp. This will help relax the eye when seeing near. Also, if a child is less hyperopic than +0.75D at age 6, he/she is predisposed to becoming shortsighted/myopic in the future due to eye is still growing. As eye grows (and longer), +0.75 will become +0.50 then +0.25 then Plano (or zero) and subsequently to shortsighted power -0.25. If a child presents with lesser than +0.75 at age 6, it tells us that she may be shortsighted in years to come. So, we want to do all possible to slow down the progression by:

  1. wear glasses as advised
  2. have outdoor play 2hours a day
  3. limit screen time (1hour of only 1x or 2x a day, apart of school online learning)
  4. take regular break in between near work following 20-20-20 rule
  5. enough lighting
  6. good posture
  7. hold phone at Harmon distance/elbow distance: distance of elbow to face

We want to let the child wear the glasses first, with the power that the eye needs and then we will see the child back for a review on Accommodation (or focusing) and Vergence (or aiming, how we aim at a target).
